LO2: Self Reflection

Self-reflection
What went well: I feel so far in this unit my progress has been good with everything completed on time. I am very happy with how my sketches to the real mockups turned out and I also believe the level of detail for the annotations around my mockups was quite high. My inspiration powerpoint was also well received by the class. Finally I am happy with how the layout and structure of my blog has continued to a high standard throughout the LO.
Even better if: I believe my sketches could have come out better with better equipment and more time spent to refine them, however I am still happy with how the final product turned out.
Targets: So far I believe more time should be allocated to refine my blog and possibly fix any outgoing issues with the LO when I receive my feedback sheet.

LO2: House Style Ideas

Colours

These are the main colours I have decided to use for the house style of my promotional content. These colours are pastiched from a lot of different formats of media relating to the EDM genre. The neon colours follow the theme of the name 'LA5ER' or lasers. They are iconic and fit the connotations of entertaining, partying, fun, exciting and a lot more. The neon colours also help to make my festival stand out above others, especially in comparison to other well knows festivals - as a national festival cannot be successful with a low audience count. The colours are also useful as they promote multi-gender ticket selling, with the stereotypical blue for male and pink/purple for women.

LO2: Mind Maps

Product Ideas
The above mind maps shows my concept ideas for formats of my promotional package.

Potential Names

As my live event is based on EDM (electro dance music) I created some names related to the genre. For example ElectroFest explains in the name what type of festival it is. Names like EDMusic contain EDM in the name which also allows people to identify the genre of music.

In the end I chose to use 'LA5ER Fest' as my festival name. The reason for this is that the '5' Is quite unique and will attract people due to it being a wrong way around 'S'. The name 'LA5ER' is also short so people can remember the name easily. Also laser can also supply connotations of fun and excitement. 'LA5ER' also works with the genre as commonly lasers are used to great extent in EDM festivals, so much so that people can associate lasers with EDM festivals and vice versa.

Above is a mood board of other EDM festivals and their names. Most of them use something relatable but one thing common with all of them is the use of lasers or similar equipment. For this reason I decided to choose 'LA5ER' as my name as it is common across all festivals with this genre.

LO2: Inspiration Pitch

My Pitch was presented to the class.

Here is the feedback i received:

Positive: Your slides have fantastic design consistency and look like they have been professionally art-worked. Your pitch was delivered confidently and professionally. Excellent to see you considering connotations of specific graphics. I was also impressed that you identified the “fun/ child- like style” graphics as a marketing strategy to attract the target audience of festival goers. What type of graphics would appeal to your target audience, what demographic are they?

Challenge: Try not to used pixelated images in presentations (last slide.) The Glastonbury font is in the Cubist style (a major art movement, see Picasso/ George Braques) and you could explore this further in your own designs. Also seeing as you identified the photographic background as an aspect you would like to explore could you design a photoshoot to do this? What would you photograph and how would it suit your aims and theme? Try to use subject specific terms like kerning on your blog and presentations to show off your developing knowledge. Perhaps a Q&A slide at the end would have encouraged more group discussion?
