LO4: Legal and Ethical

According to the ASA (the authority in charge if advertising). It is important to ensure that my graphic product follow the guidelines of the ASA wherever applicable. I have selected three sections of the code below which relate to my product.

Section 1: Compliance

To ensure my designed content follows the majority of CAP codes, section 01: compliance must be followed in order to adhere to any regulations set by any other codes. Section 1.1 states 'Marketing communications should be legal, decent, honest and truthful.' For this reason my products must follow the law, and be truthful to the event, so therefore must not advertise anything falsely (i.e an artist that will not be at the event).

Section 3: Misleading Advertising

The purpose for my designed products is to promote my event. For this reason I must keep my images and artist names true to prevent any misleading information from occurring. Section 3.3 states 'Marketing communications must not mislead the consumer by omitting material information'. This suggests no important information should be missed out or 'omitted' from the important documents such as ticket or poster.

Section 4: Harm and Offence.

My products must promote the event 'La5er Fest'. Items like the poster will include Artists and Groups which may be offensive names. To prevent against breaching section 4 of the CAP codes ('Particular care must be taken to avoid causing offence on the grounds of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability or age'), it is important to check that artist names promoted on the poster or other promotional merchandise to ensure there is no content that could be seen as offensive or harmful to a potentially full spectrum of age ranges.

LO3: Evaluation

I presented my presentation in front of Human director Nick Bax, who reviewed my presentation, target audience and designs for my EDM music festival. My presentation lasted around 6-10 minutes and went really well. The feedback from Nick Bax is as follows:
  • My presentation was very good and he could see how the house style, and graphic designs represented the EDM genre.
  • Nick Bax reccomened swapping the Lato-Hairline font used on my poster to a Light or Regular font in order to allow it to be seen better. This was considered upon the first design and stated during the presentation, however I opted for the hairline in the end. When presenting, the font was rather difficult to see and therefore I agree with Nick and will swap the font to either regular or light on my final design.
  • Nick also stated my target audience ratio for male:female was slightly incorrect, instead of an 80:20 respectively, Nick suggested the EDM genre was open to more females and recommended a 50:50 or 60:40 split.
In conclusion Nick enjoyed the graphics I had to offer and also thought the genre and designed images matched correctly. However I should make sure target audience and fonts are correct for my final release.

LO3: Questionnaire

I created both a paper copy and survey monkey questionnaire to ask students about my design. Their answers are submitted below:

Online Responses:

Q1) What is your favourite product of my graphic work and why?

Q2) What colours do you think go with my house style for the electro dance music (EDM) genre?

Q3) What would you improve about my logo/s (if anything)?

Q4) Which of my logos do you prefer and why?

Q5) Do you think I should create any other promotional material (e.g T-Shirt)?

LO2: Self Reflection

Self-reflection
What went well: I feel so far in this unit my progress has been good with everything completed on time. I am very happy with how my sketches to the real mockups turned out and I also believe the level of detail for the annotations around my mockups was quite high. My inspiration powerpoint was also well received by the class. Finally I am happy with how the layout and structure of my blog has continued to a high standard throughout the LO.
Even better if: I believe my sketches could have come out better with better equipment and more time spent to refine them, however I am still happy with how the final product turned out.
Targets: So far I believe more time should be allocated to refine my blog and possibly fix any outgoing issues with the LO when I receive my feedback sheet.
